Even more BARCELONA!

I'm not usually one of those hipsters who post pictures of their food, but I just have to!! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and in Spain it's definitely lacking. Every morning I eat two tiny slices of white bread. That's it! With that being said, I was ecstatic about a hotel buffet-style breakfast, so here you go!

Our morning was jam-packed with sightseeing! We started off by visiting the Gothic area of Barcelona, which I of course loved. Like Valencia, Barcelona was also built on top of ancient Roman ruins. Much of the Gothic area showed wear and age, but I loved it nonetheless. My favorite part of the Gothic area was of course the Catedral de Barcelona. This Catedral was originally not particularly ornate, but over the years, especially in the 1800's, many decorations were added.

After spending a few hours in the Gothic area, we (literally) crossed the street into El Borne. El Borne is the section of Barcelona built exclusively by the sailors. This part of town used to be the wealthiest of them all because of the success of shipping at the time. The only cathedral in this part of the city is Santa María del Mar (Saint Mary of the Sea). Though less ornate, I still fell in love with this church. (Anyone sensing a theme here?)

We had the rest of the afternoon to ourselves, so Ashley, Ashton, Allie, Anna, Ryan, and I explored Las Rambla- a famous street for shopping in Barcelona. Unfortunately, we went the "wrong way" and found only touristy trinket shops instead of handmade stuff. Another day, another opportunity!
