The bus ride to Madrid was uncomfortable, as expected. We ended up arriving a little early, which was nice for me since I had the earliest flight. Goodbyes went surprisingly well- no tears! I hopped on the shuttle to terminal 4, which is way out in the middle of nowhere. We got me checked in, found the bathrooms, and then I went through security. I only had to wait a few minutes before boarding began for my flight to Paris. On the plane I was in the aisle (of course- tall people problems), and no one else was in my row!
Judy and I found each other in the Paris airport (how cool is that to say) after a little terminal wing snafu!!!!!!! First off we took the train into Paris, and dropped our luggage off at Gare de Nord station for the day. We then headed to pick up our Paris Passes to get our adventure started. The most logical place to start was the Lourve Museum, where the Mona Lisa is kept. It’s a good thing that Judy and I are so alike, because neither one of us wanted to hang out in a museum any longer than necessary.

We went back and picked up our luggage from Gare
de Nord, and hopped on the metro to the edge of Paris where we were supposed to
meet Antionette, our accommodation for the first night.
Though we didn’t find each other right away, it eventually worked
itself out. She took us back to her
flat, cooked a wonderful dinner (quinoa, spinach, ham, and fresh fruit), took
us on a walk of her neighborhood, and then gave us some tips about sightseeing
in Paris. Judy and I were ridiculously
uncomfortable most of the day, and the heat continued into the night, which
made our first day in Paris not exactly what we’d hoped for.
It's absolutely wonderful to have Judy here with me in Europe. Towards the end of my time in Spain I was feeling not homesick, but just over-exhausted. Her wonderful presence has renewed my travel bug! :)
